Volunteering
- The key to volunteering at the Equal Access Clinic is offering a service which, for many people, is their only access to health care. Though other facilities/clinics exist which serve low income or similar demographic groups, the Equal Access Clinic is a unique entity in the downtown Gainesville area, catering our services to the homeless and indigent populations.
- First and second year medical students are inundated with medical information. However, students have little opportunity in the first two years of medical school to use this wonderful knowledge in a practical clinical setting. Volunteering at the Equal Access Clinic allows medical students to interview patients, perform physical examinations, practice presenting to attendings, and begin the process of learning to diagnose. All of this helps to reinforce what is learned in and out of class. For third and fourth year students it is an opportunity to give back to the community while refreshing and enhancing the knowledge gained from previous years of education.
- There are no fees, memberships, applications, or other requirements to volunteer. All University of Florida College of Medicine students are welcome and encouraged to volunteer. Volunteering is also currently open to the UF College of Dentistry and to select pre-med students through Pre-Med AMSA at UF.
