Kaleidoscope is a group composed primarily of medical students and faculty who believe that artistic expression is a vital part of medical eduction. Our purpose is to promote artistic expression in any number of ways among students and faculty as a means of enriching our lives and those of the patients that we help care for. We believe that art and creative expression should be included among the many credentials of a doctor. As future physicians in training there is no better time in our course to begin making creative expression a part of our practice. Creative expression is to be included among the many ways that we can communicate with others, and Kaleidoscope hopes to nuture this skill by creating a safe and free environment where students and faculty may express themselves. Kaleidoscope also hopes to bring students and faculty closer together around around the common cause of artistic expression. We hope to motivate others and create a community of dedicated people who believe that you can truly help others through art. Our group has helped to produce shows of student art that have been displayed in the Maren Reading Room. We are grateful to have this space that is reserved for student expression and reflection. In addition, we have created community music recitals, Remember The Muse, where students and faculty come together to sing and play instruments to each other. Many students arrive at medical school with extraordinary skills and talents, then slowly their committment wavers as the demands on their time steadily increase. Kaleidoscope hopes to stem this loss as an established group that is constantly active in promoting each others art. This website will serve as a source of information for Kaleidoscope events past, present, and future. Enjoy.
