Topic: Recognizing Depression in the Elderly
Tueth presently serves as Associate Professor of Psychiatry with the College of Medicine, University of Florida. In addition, Dr. Tueth is the Attending Inpatient Psychiatrist, Attending Psychiatrist in the Mental Health Clinic, Psychiatric Consultant for the Memory Disorder Clinic, Director of Electroconvulsive Therapy, and Associate Faculty with Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center, at the VA Medical Center, Gainesville, FL. He is also Director of the Geropsychiatry Outpatient Clinic at Shands Hospital, Director of the Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship, and coordinator of the PGY-1 psychiatric resident training. Dr. Tueth also serves as Consultant at Northeast Florida State Hospital nursing care units and as Director, Longterm Care for Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship at three local nursing care units.
Dr. Tueth received his M.D. at the University of Illinois and completed his residencies at the University of Louisville and the University of Florida. He is Diplomate, with the American Board of Emergency Medicine, Diplomate with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and Diplomate in Psychiatry with added qualifications in Geriatric Psychiatry.
Dr. Tueth is a member of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry and is licensed in both Georgia and Florida, with inactive licenses in Minnesota, Kentucky and Indiana.


Topic: Dementia
Dr. Stewart is currently Staff Psychiatrist and Chief of the Geropsychiatry Program, at the VA Medical Center, Bay Pines, FL, Clinical Professor in Psychiatry at the University of South Florida College of Medicine, Tampa, FL, and Faculty Associate, Center for Neuropsychological Studies, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL. He also serves on the Geriatrics and Extended Care Committee, Utilization Management Committee-Mental Health Group, and as Chairman of the Education Committee-Psychiatry Service at the VA Medical Center, Bay Pines; and the Geriatric Residency Committee at the University of South Florida Department of Psychiatry.
Dr. Stewart earned his M.D. at the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa, FL and is licensed in the State of Florida and the DEA and is a Diplomate, National Board of Medical Examiners. He is certified in Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Stewart is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the Florida Psychiatric Society, the American Geriatrics Society, the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry, the Florida Geriatrics Society and the Pinellas County Psychiatric Association.


Topic: Strategies for Coping with Bad Behavior
Dr. DeMontmollin is a Clinical Psychologist at the VA Medical Center, Gainesville and an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Florida, Gainesville. She received both her M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychiatry from the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL. She completed her internship in Clinical Psychiatry at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington, DC.
Dr. DeMontmollin serves as a member of the Education Committee and frequent lecturer for the Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the VA Medical Center and Coordinating Committee member of the Geriatric Education Center, College of Medicine, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL.
Dr. DeMontmollin has made numerous presentations on geriatric depression and dementia, and she participated in a five-part workshop sponsored by the University of Florida Department of Psychiatry and the Governor's Initiative on Alzheimer's Disease: What's New in Managing Dementia. Dr. DeMontmollin also participated in the Health and Rehabilitative Services (HRS) workshop to train HRS workers to cope with problems of clients in nursing homes.

Dr. Hoffman is presently Medical Director of the Nursing Home Care Unit and of the Medical Intensive Care Unit at the VA Medical Center, as well as serving as a Clinical Assistant Professor for the College of Medicine, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL.
Dr. Hoffman received her B.S., Magna Cum Laude, from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and her M.D. from Albany Medical College, Albany, NY. She completed her internship/residency at the Shands Teaching Hospital and Clinics, University of Florida, and the VA Medical Center, Gainesville, FL. She is a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners, and is Board certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics.
Dr. Hoffman is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the American Geriatrics Society. She currently serves as a member of the VA Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee, the VA Library Committee, the VA Extended Care Advisory Council, the VA Medical Center Infection Control Committee and Chairs the VA Clinical Investigation Subcommittee, the VA Ethics Committee and the VA Drug Utilization and Evaluation Committee.

Dr. Caranasos is currently Director of the Geriatric Education Center; Chief, and Ruth S. Jewett Professor of Medicine in Geriatrics, Division of Internal Medicine, Section on Aging, University of Florida College of Medicine, Gainesville, FL.
Dr. Caranasos earned his M.D. at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD; completed his internship and served as Assistant Resident at Osler Medical Service, Johns Hopkins Hospital; and was Research Associate at the Johns Hopkins University for Medical Research and Training. He served as Chief Resident, Department of Medicine, College of Medicine, Shands Teaching Hospital, University of Florida and Gainesville VA Hospital, Gainesville, FL and was a Fellow, Psychosomatic Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, University of Florida.
Dr. Caranasos is a Diplomate with the American Board of Internal Medicine and holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatric Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, member of the Society of General Internal Medicine, member of the Southern Medical Association, member of the Florida Medical Association, member of the Johns Hopkins Medical and Surgical Association, member of the American Geriatrics Society, member of the Gerontological Society of America, member of the Florida Council on Aging and the National Council on Aging.


Topic: Herbal Remedies
Mr. Delafuente presently serves as Professor and Associate Chairman of the Department of Pharmacy Practice, College of Pharmacy, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL. He is also Faculty Advisor to Rho Pi Phi Pharmaceutical Fraterity; Faculty Associate, Center for Gerontological Studies, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; and member of the Coordinating Committee of the University of Florida Geriatric Education Center.
Mr. Delafuente earned his B.S. and M.S., with a specialization in Clinical Pharmacy, from the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL. In addition, he completed his Clinical Pharmacy residency and was a Research Fellow with the Division of Clinical Immunology, College of Medicine, University of Florida. He is a licensed pharmacist in Florida and Missouri and his research interests include Immunopharmacology, Immune Responses in the Aged, Geriatric Pharmacotherapy, and Innovations in Education.
Mr. Delafuente is a member of the Alachua County Association of Pharmacists, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, the American Pharmaceutical Association, The American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists, the Florida Pharmacy Association, the North Central Florida Society of Hospital Pharmacists, Phi Lambda Sigma Pharmacy Leadership Society, and Rho Pi Phi Pharmacy Franterity.


Topic: Venous Stasis Ulcers
Dr. Alguire recently accepted the position of Director of Education with the American College of Physicians in Pittsburgh, PA. and remains faculty with the Michigan State University Primary Care Faculty Development Fellowship Program. At the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL, Dr. Alguire was Professor of Medicine and served as Medical Director for the Physician Assistant Program.
Dr. Alguire earned his M.D. at the College of Human Medicine, Michigan State University and completed his internship and residency at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI. He is licensed in both the states of Michigan and Florida.
He is a member of the American Medical Association and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians as well as a charter member Alumni Category of Alpha Omega Alpha at Michigan State University. Dr. Alguire has authored numerous books and articles, serves on many national committees, and was honored with the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine Outstanding Alumni Award in 1997.

Dr. Kennedy is an Associate Professor, Endocrine Division, College of Medicine, and Director of Internal Medicine, Diabetes Center of Excellence, at the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL. Prior to UF, he served as Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC.
Dr. Kennedy received his M.D. at the Queen's University in Belfast, Ireland. He is a member of the British Diabetic Association, the Irish Endocrine Society, the European Association for the Study of Diabetes, the Endocrine Society (USA), the Society for Endocrinology (UK), the Association of Physicians of Great Britain and Ireland, and the American Diabetes Association.
He has authored numerous publications on Diabetes and Endocrine Research and Clinical Studies. Dr. Kennedy has also participated in research studies in the areas of endocrinology and diabetes, as well as clinical trials of various treatments and medications.


Topic: Pressure Ulcers
Ms. Brainard is presently Clinical Nurse Specialist in Gerontology at the VA Medical Center where she serves as consultant to staff on geriatric and skin care problems and manages and provides care to outpatients in the Wound Care Clinic. She is also Courtesy Instructor Faculty at the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL. Ms. Brainard is a member of the VA Research Committee and of the Nursing Performance Improvement Committee at the VAMC.
Ms. Brainard earned her BSN at Stockton State College in Pomona, NJ and her MSN at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA. She was named Gerontological Nurse of the Year by the Florida Nursing Association for 1995-1996 and received Special Advancement for Performance at the VAMC in 1996.
She is a member of the American Nurses' Association, the Florida Nurses' Association, the Florida Nurses' Association Councils on Education, Advanced Practice and Gerontology, Sigma Theta Tau, Delta Beta Chapter, the Jefferson University Nurses' Alumni Association, the National Gerontological Nurses' Association, and the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses Society.


Topic: Stroke Rehabilitation
Dr. Beard is presently Assistant Professor, Department of Orthopaedics, at the Shands Rehabilitation Hospital, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL. Prior to UF, she was an Instructor in Anatomy and Physiology for Massage Therapists with the San Antonio Institute for Natural Therapeutic Services.
Dr. Beard received her M.S. in Experimental Pathology from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and earned her M.D. from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, TX, where she also served her internship and residency. Dr. Beard is licensed in both Texas and Florida.
Dr. Beard is a member of the Texas Medical Association, the Wilderness Medical Society, The Association of Academic Physiatrists, and the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.


Topic: Rehabilitation After Knee and Hip Replacement
Ms. Hogsette is presently Supervisor of Physical Therapy at the Veterans Administration Medical Center Nursing Home Unit, in Gainesville, FL. Ms. Hogsette has served as both Staff and Senior Physical Therapist for a number of organizations throughout the State of Florida. Throughout her career, Ms. Hogsette has provided clinical supervision for physical therapy students.
Ms. Hogsette earned her B.S. in Physical Therapy from the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL, and is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association, the Florida Physical Therapy Association and the Geriatric Section of the American Physical Therapy Association.


Topic: Exercise and Fitness for the Elderly
Dr. Meuleman is presently Associate Professor, in the Division of Internal Medicine, Department of Medicine and Associate Chairman for Education, Department of Medicine, at the University of Florida, as well as Associate Director, Clinical Affairs, Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the VA Medical Center, Gainesville, FL.
Dr. Meuleman graduated with his B.S. (Highest Honors) from the University of Notre Dame and earned his M.D. at the Washington University Medical School. He completed his residency and served as Chief Resident in Internal Medicine, at the University of Florida (Shands Teaching Hospital and VA Medical Center). He also is a Diplomate in Geriatric Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Meuleman, who is Board certified in Internal Medicine and licensed in the State of Florida, is a member of the Society of General Internal Medicine, a member of the American Geriatric Association, and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.


Topic: Advance Directives
Since 1995, Dr. Palacio has served as the Associate General Counsel for Shands Teaching Hospital & Clinics, Gainesville, FL. In this capacity, she advises hospital administrators and personnel on business and patient care issues and represents the hospital at mental health and drug treatment related hearings. Dr. Palacio's previous work experience includes Associate Director of the University of Florida Institute for HIV Research and Education, as well as several positions as General Counsel in various organizations.
Dr. Palacio received her M.S. in Zoology from the University of Florida and she earned her Juris Doctor from Sanford Law School in 1984 where she was honored with the Earl Warren legal Training Scholarship. She was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1985 and the Florida Bar in 1994.
Dr. Palacio currently serves as a member of the University of Florida, College of Medicine HIV Community Advisory Board.


Topic: Hospice Philosophy and Benefits
Dr. McCollough has served as Director of Hospice of North Central Florida, in Gainesville, FL, since May of 1997. His area of specialty is Internal Medicine/Endocrinology in both private practice and over 25 years with the Gainesville Medical Group.
He received his M.D. with honors from the University of Florida College of Medicine and completed his residencies at Boston City Hospital and Shands Teaching Hospital. In 1976 Dr. McCollough served as Chief of Staff at North Florida Regional Medical Center, where he still holds his hospital affiliation.
Dr. McCollough is a member of the Florida Medical Association, the Alachua County Medical Society, the American Society of Internal Medicine, the Florida Society of Internal Medicine, the Florida Endocrine Society, the American Society of Clinical Endocrinology, and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.


Topic: The Ethics of Dying
Dr. Moseley has been Director, since 1985, of Medical Ethics, Law and the Humanities in the College of Medicine at the University of Florida, and he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Community Health and Family Medicine. He teaches Medical Ethics and Law in the College of Medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine and coordinates a clinical ethics consultation service for hospitals, nursing homes and hospices. Dr. Moseley is a consultant for many ethics committees, and was the founding President of the Florida Bioethics Network, currently serving on the Board as the "Bioethics Advisor."
Dr. Moseley received his Master's Degree in Philosophy and Medical Ethics at the University of Tennessee and completed his Doctorate in Bioethics at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
His research includes publications on the ethics of "Withdrawal of Life-Sustaining Medical Treatment," "Advance Directives," "Ethics Committees," "Allocation of Scarce Medical Resources," and "Ethical Aspects of Genetic Testing and Genetic Therapy."
