Early Detection & Intervention of Dehydration
- If the patient has hand dexterity problems, it is important to obtain an occupational therapy assessment to evaluate the patient for assistive eating and drinking devices
- Speech therapy assessment should be obtained for swallowing function if necessary
- Patients who aspirate may need applesauce, puddings, and jello's, for fluid intake due to difficulty swallowing thin liquids
