Biography: Dr. Joseph Spillane

Dr. Joseph Spillane received his Ph.D. in History from Carnegie-Mellon University. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Florida, with a joint appointment in the Department of History and the Department of Criminology, Law, and Society. His first book, Cocaine: From Medical Marvel to Modern Menace in the United States, 1884-1920, won the Addiction Book Award in 2001. More recently, he co-edited Federal Drug Control: The Evolution of Policy and Practice. His research interests include the history of drug abuse and drug control, and the intersection of scientific/social scientific knowledge and criminal justice practice.
