- 1922: Suzerac and Levaditti
- Treated over 200 patients with bismuth
- Less effective, but also less toxic than arsphenamine
- Alternating therapy with bismuth and arsphenamine became common therapy.
- Heavy metals could cure some acute infections, but were not effective versus later infections, especially neurosyphilis.
