• 1564 - Jacques le Moyne de Morques describes the Timucuan Indian culture
• 1700 - Last Timucuan Indians
• 1720 - First Seminoles in North Florida
• 1817 - Arredondo Grant, centered in Micanopy
• 1817 - First Seminole War
• 1821 - Florida Territory ceded to U.S. from Spain
• 1823 - Dr. Samuel Ayers appointed to first white settlement at Micanopy; departs same year
• 1829 - Alachua County created (stretches from Georgia to Tampa Bay)
• 1835 - Second Seminole War
• 1836 - Fort Micanopy abandoned due to unhealthy conditions
