Dennis A. Steindler, Ph.D.
Dr. Dennis A. Steindler received his Bachelors degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in Zoology, his Ph.D. in Anatomy/Neuroscience from the University of California, San Francisco, and he did postdoctoral training at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Germany. He recently joined the University of Florida College of Medicine faculty as a professor of neuroscience and neurosurgery.
His laboratory has a long-standing interest in brain development, injury, and repair. Dr. Steindler's current research on adult neural stem cells began with the discovery of a region of the brain where "baby brain molecules" persist throughout life (a region of the brain he calls "brain marrow"), and where he found stem cells to exist. New work in his lab is focusing on the application of adult stem cell biology to self-repair approaches for neurological disease, as well as the possible role of stem cells in brain tumorigenesis.
