Q Fever: Making the Diagnosis
- Humans make antibodies to the Phase I (highly infectious) and Phase II (not infectious) forms of the bacterium
- Antibodies can be detected on blood tests
- High Phase II antibody titres indicates recent contact with / infection by C. burnetii, usually within last 6-8 months
- High Phase I antibodies = chronic infection
