Cumulative Exercise

  1. Choose a health-related topic of interest to you. Your goal is to use the different search tools to find five high-quality web resources. Write down the URL of any site, at any point in your search, which may help meet this goal.
  2. Search on your topic using a meta-engine. Notice how many sites were retrieved in each engine; scan the hits to get a sense of the results in each.
  3. Next, try to narrow your search by using the advanced features of any search engine. Notice the quantity and type of hits.
  4. Now, use one of the health megasites to locate resources.
  5. Utilize the Five-Star Criteria (AABCC) to evaluate the quality of each resource.
  6. Which tool provided the best information?
