  1. COURSE GOALS, COMPETENCIES and LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    1. The Overall Goals of the Clinical Human Anatomy Course Are:

      1. To provide an environment, primarily in the laboratory, where students can learn the basic principles of human anatomy.
      2. To familiarize students with the anatomical-based vocabulary, the cornerstone of medicine.
      3. To facilitate the learning of human gross anatomy and embryology so that a student can recognize and use anatomic principles during the course and throughout their careers.

    2. Course Competencies & Learning Objectives: Through formative and summative evaluations, students will demonstrate their level of competence in three categories:

      1. Professional Behavior Competency
        1. Learning Objective: Demonstrate appropriate truthfulness and honesty with colleagues.
        2. Learning Objective: Treat people respectfully.
        3. Learning Objective: Demonstrate appropriately the understanding of the Class Code of Ethics.
        4. Learning Objective: Demonstrate behavior that is appropriate to the circumstance.

      2. Medical Knowledge
        1. Core-Discipline
          1. Learning Objective: Demonstrate knowledge of the anatomic structures of the body. At the end of the course, a student will be able to recognize and recall pertinent anatomic features of the:

            1. back and upper extremity
            2. thorax
            3. neck and head
            4. abdomen
            5. pelvis and perineum
            6. lower extremity

          2. Learning Objective: Demonstrate knowledge of the embryology of the human body. At the end of the course, a student will be able to understand and recall the development of the:

            1. bilaminar germ disc
            2. trilaminar embrymic disc and its derivatives
            3. vertebral column and spinal nerves
            4. extremities
            5. lungs and pleural cavities
            6. heart
            7. head and neck
            8. eyes and ears
            9. gastrointestinal tract
            10. urogenital system

        2. Problem Solving Competency

Learning objective: Demonstrate the ability to identify and apply anatomical knowledge to clinical problems as determined by observations, interactions in the lecture hall and laboratory, and by written examinations.

      3. Interpersonal Communications and Skills
      1. Human Relationships and Communications
Learning Objective: Demonstrate effective verbal communication with peers & teaching faculty.

      2. Health Care Team
Learning Objective: Demonstrate the ability to interact with other health care professionals and engage them in the process of learning as part of the team approach.
