- Understand and discuss the four major types of diagnostic imaging modalities
- Xray/CT, Ultrasound, MRI, Nuclear Imaging
- Understand that Xray and CT use the same physical principals to make images which is why we lump them together
- Be aware that CT scanning has fostered TWO major 'revolutions' in medical imaging
- Initial introduction in late 1970s and early 1980s
- Development of multi-detector spiral scanners in late 1990s and 2000s
- Recognize and describe how the four imaging types differ
- What physical process makes the images in each modality?
- Describe components of inherent contrast in x-ray imaging
- Understand the concept of beam divergence in x-ray imaging
- Describe the role of administered contrast in radiology imaging
- Understand and describe the role of Interventional Radiology in modern clinical practice
