Welcome to Essentials of Patient Care III! This is the third part of a four part course series designed to introduce medical students to clinical medicine. We aim to provide you the tools and experience to develop as competent and compassionate physicians. The course will meet throughout the fall semester and combine didactic lectures, small group sessions, standardized patient experiences in the Harrell Assessment Center and actual patient encounters in hospital wards.

EPC III has four areas of concentration:

  1. Oral and written communication of medical information.
  2. Development of differential diagnoses by skillful history and PE data collection and processing of this information (clinical decision-making) in an inpatient setting.
  3. Development of differential diagnoses by skillful history and PE data collection and processing of this information (clinical decision-making) in an outpatient setting.
  4. Focus on advanced communication skills such as breaking bad news and the physician-patient relationship.

We are excited to be involved in your educational process as you develop technical and interpersonal skills which will be critical to the practice of medicine.
