An 8 year old girl comes into the pediatrician's office complaining of fever, conjunctivitis, running nose and cough. On physical exam, there are bright red lesions with a white, central dot on the buccal mucosa. A number of students at the same elementary school have been sick recently. The girl remembers visiting her sick friend who had a maculopapular rash on her face.
