Systemic Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

During
the fall term, all students will meet once with the Chair of Pathology,
Dr. Crawford. Each session will
consist of 8 to 10 students and last 1.5 hours. The purpose of the
Chairmen’s rounds is to introduce students to the clinical practice of
pathology. During the chairmen’s rounds, Drs. Crawford, Douglas or Winter will
discuss the different branches of pathology practice and the impact of
pathology on patient care. The
experience will include a tour of the department’s gross pathology suite
and hospital laboratories as well as first hand exposure to how pathology
specimens (surgical or biopsies) are handled from receipt in the gross
pathology suite to interpretation of histology slides.
Students will report to Shands Room 2227 at the day and
time assigned. The schedule has been coordinated with Physical Diagnosis, using their group
assignments and accommodating their schedule. Students can not change
their assigned day and time without permission from Dr. Normann. The Pathology Chairman's Rounds are a required
student activity.
