A visiting student may not displace a University of Florida student from any elective. For this reason, no visiting student will be accepted for an elective at the University of Florida until Florida students have made their elective choices. This process should be completed by mid-June.

The student will be notified by the Electives Coordinator in the Office of Medical Education when rotation is approved. The University of Florida College of Medicine does not offer housing to visiting students. However, a list of various area housing opportunities is distributed.

The visiting student must be a fourth year student in good standing at a medical school which is accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education and a member or an affiliated member of the Association of American Medical Colleges or a fully accredited U.S. Osteopathic School. In addition, they must have the permission of their academic dean to take an extramural course outside the institution in which they are enrolled. The student must be covered by malpractice and personal health insurance.

The University of Florida DOES NOT provide the visiting student with malpractice insurance coverage.

Prior to beginning their rotation at the University of Florida College of Medicine, visiting students must check in wit the Senior Electives Coordinator. They will be assigned a UF ID Number in order to complete the required Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)training and sign the Policy and Confidentiality Statement.

Visiting students on clinical rotations must wear white laboratory coats, their home school identification badge, and proper business attire. If students wish to use the library, they may purchase an "All-In-One" badge. Parking is also available for the period in which the student will be in Gainesville. Visiting students will be provided with a ltter for Traffic and Parking in the Office of Medical Education.
