Question 10 - Single Best Answer
Based on the clinical history and the CT images in question 9, which of the following is the most likely diagnosis?
A) Acute appendicitis
Sorry...
Our patient has radiologic findings and a history more consistent with acute pancreatitis than with appendicitis. A patient with an acute appendicitis would most likely present with right lower quadrant abdominal pain, leukocytosis, and fever. Other ways to diagnose appendicitis include ultrasonography (more helpful in thin patients), and exploratory laparotomy. On KUB, 10-15% of patients with acute appendicitis have a calcified appendicolith (stool in the appendix).
