Renal Cell Carcinoma - Ultrasound

This is a longitudinal view of a renal ultrasound. There is a large hypoechoic solid-appearing mass in the lower pole of this imaged kidney.

Black arrow = renal mass.
Black arrowhead = renal capsule.
White arrow = renal cortex.

With the longitudinal view of an ultrasound, the orientation of the patient with respect to the image is always the following:

1. The head of the patient (rostral direction) is towards the left of the image.
2. The feet of the patient (caudal direction) is towards the right of image.
3. The top of the image is the point where the ultrasound probe contacts the skin.
