What should we recommend for older adults to do, to deal with these deficits?
First of all, it is critical for people to wear their eyeglasses and hearing aids to all important appointments. If we cannot hear the speaker, if we cannot see the sign clearly, we won't be able to remember it.
Second, distractions need to be eliminated whenever concentrated thinking is required. We must turn off the television, ask the grandchildren to leave, find a quiet place and focus all of our mental energy on the material we want to remember.
