Normal Aging Changes to Memory -- Learning
Lets begin with L, and look at learning.
Learning gets slower with age -- almost every aspect of learning and thinking slows down as we get older.
- It takes longer to learn,
- it takes longer to recall or retrieve what we already know, and
- if information is speeding by very quickly, it is difficult to pull it into memory.
Although these statements are true, they don't give you the whole picture about learning. Psychologists have found that immediate memory remains intact as we get older -- most of us can remember something we heard within the last minute or so.
