Sleep Patterns of Older Adults - Sleep Apnea
Sleep apnea characteristically occurs in obese persons and becomes more prevalent with aging.
- There is loud intermittent snoring, numerous apneic episodes, hypoxia, thrashing in bed, frequent nocturnal awakenings not appreciated by the sleeper, morning headaches, marked daytime somnolence and poor memory and judgment.
- Hypnotics and alcohol increase apneic episodes.
