Breast Cancer Screening in the Elderly

Nipple inversion may be normal. Often the patient can give you very helpful information as to how long this has been present, whether it is a recent change. Nipple inversion should not initially occur after puberty and should not be fixed.

In the sitting position the axilla and supraclavicular areas should also be assessed for the likelihood of enlarged lymph nodes.

Changing the patient's position, the professional should examine the patient in the supine position palpating the breast again with the patient's arms over her head.
