Comparison to prior mammographic studies is often very useful to assess whether or not there has been an interval change in the appearance of the breast.

Patients who have had mammographic studies should recognize that they have made history with the performance of that study and if they move from state to state or city to city, should have some history of the facility and site at which their mammographic study was performed.

• This allows comparison by the radiologist of the prior studies to the current mammographic studies.
