Screening the Elderly for Colorectal Cancer -- Screening

The main obstacle to standardized screening for colorectal cancer is that none of the currently available tests for the disease meet all of those criteria.

Colonoscopy is the gold standard for diagnosing colorectal carcinoma, but it makes a poor screening test because of the expense, discomfort, and risk of colonic perforation associated with it.
