Screening the Elderly for Colorectal Cancer -- Double-Contrast Barium Enema (DCBE)

The chance of malignancy occuring in a colonic polyp less than 5mm in diameter is estimated to be 0.05%. The ability to detect colonic polyps by the various methods, therefore, is most important for polyps greater than 5mm in size.

In fact, most clinicians consider polyps less than 1 cm in diameter to have very low malignant potential.
