Screening the Elderly for Colorectal Cancer -- Colonoscopy

While not 100% accurate, colonoscopy remains the gold standard for evaluating patients for colorectal cancer.

Patients with a positive FOBT, a moderate or high risk for development of colorectal cancer, or symptoms compatible with colorectal cancer (such as unexplained iron deficiency anemia or obstruction) should undergo a full colonoscopy.
