While most governing agencies have adopted the recommendation that colorectal cancer screening for the general population begin at age 50 with annual Digital Rectal Examination, Fecal Occult Blood Testing, and flexible sigmoidoscopy, only the use of annual Fecal Occult Blood Test has proved to be effective by the highest standard of scientific evaluation, that being multiple large, randomized, controlled trials.
