Screening the Elderly for Colorectal Cancer -- From Polyp to Malignancy
The majority of colorectal carcinomas arise from grossly visible protrusions of the mucosal surface, also known as polyps.
There are three major classifications of polyps:
- non-neoplastic hamartomas (juvenile polyps)
- hyperplastic mucosal proliferation (hyperplastic polyps) and
- adenomatous polyps.
