For those tumors that are large, recurrent, or in difficult areas, the preferred treatment is Mohs micrographic surgery.

Mohs micrographic surgery is a technique in which the surgeon also functions as the pathologist.

In this treatment, the tumor is excised, divided into sections which are numbered, inked and a map is created.
Then by looking under the microscope, one can identify specifically where the tumor remains.
