Recognizing Skin Cancer in Older Adults -- Basal Cell Carcinoma
For those tumors that are large, recurrent, or in difficult areas, the preferred treatment is Mohs micrographic surgery.
Mohs micrographic surgery is a technique in which the surgeon also functions as the pathologist.
- In this treatment, the tumor is excised, divided into sections which are numbered, inked and a map is created.
- Then by looking under the microscope, one can identify specifically where the tumor remains.
