Case 2
Richard Snow is a 72-year old man with coronary artery disease who goes in an out of atrial fibrillation. Atrial fibrillation can result in a clot in the left atrium, which can embolize to the head. He is not anticoagulated because he is afraid of bleeding.
One morning, Mr. Snow develops sudden left-side weakness. He is rushed to the emergency room, and a CT of the head shows no intracerebral hemorrhage. He is treated with recombinant TPA in accordance with a stroke thrombosis protocol. Function on the left side rapidly returns.
