Emergency Response to Stroke -- Treatment Issues

When a patient has completed rTPA treatment, or is deemed ineligible, considerable urgency regarding further evaluation and treatment still exists, as stroke recurrence tends to occur sooner rather than later.

For example, over half of all recurrent strokes taking place in the first 2 years after an initial stroke occur within one month.

There is not time to review the diagnostic and therapeutic issues entailed in preventing stroke recurrence. These are outlined in Table 3, also available to you. (See Supplemental Materials)
