Fever and Infection in the Elderly -- Pressure Sores and Skin Infection

Pressure Sores and Skin Infections are generally seen in patients with limited mobility and result from ischemia.

They are often complicated by local infection, cellulitis, osteomyelitis, or bacteremia. Topical antibiotics are not effective for these conditions.

In general, the bacterial etiology of infected pressures sores is polymicrobial and it is important to evaluate for underlying osteomyelitis
