Fever and Infection in the Elderly -- Bacteremia
Bacteremias are more frequent and more often fatal in older individuals. The most common sources of community-acquired bacteremia in the elderly include:
- urinary tract
- intraabdominal sites
- lungs
In long term care facilities, the most common sources are
- urinary tract
- skin and subcutaneous infections, and
- the respiratory tract
