Case 1

Bill Jenkins, a 68-year old widower moved in with his daughter and her family in the summer after his wife's death. Although Mr. Jenkins was active and in good health he wanted to be close to his family in case he suffered any major illnesses.

In October, Mr. Jenkins went to his doctor and received a flu shot. That winter during the flu season, Mr. Jenkins remained well, but his daughter, son-in-law and their two teenage children all developed severe influenza. Fortunately, Mr. Jenkins stayed healthy and he was able to help care for them.
