Case 3

During Art Mays' weekly visit, his mother, 88-year old Vera, a nursing home resident, becomes increasingly confused.

The nursing home staff checks her over -- she has no fever and her respiratory rate is 30. On physical examination, crackles are heard over the left lower side of the chest posterially.
