We should therefore tell our patients that, if they get the flu shot, they will be less likely to get the flu and, if they do get the flu, they will likely not be nearly as sick from it.

Adverse reactions from the flu shot are unusual and in controlled trials reactions were no more frequent than in patients who received a saline injection.

The influenza shot can be given at the same time as other vaccinations.
