Adjunctive therapy with steroids has also been shown to decrease the incidence of post-hepatic neuralgia.

Risk factors for developing post-hepatic neuralgia are severe pain at the time of initial presentation, and advancing age.

I personally use a Medrol dose pack but the largest study which examined the use of steroids used a much higher dose. The dose in that study was prednisone 60 mg a day for 7 days, 30 mg a day for 7 days, and then 15 mg a day for 7 days.
