There are alternatives such as chloramphenicol, and one may also entertain using a new compound which is a combination of erythromycin-type of antibiotics that is known as Synercid.

• This is a rather expensive antibiotic and it should probably only be used after failure of these primary agents such as high doses of ampicillin or chloramphenicol.
