Another type of multi-resistant bacterium, or perhaps one should say resistant bacterium, that is being seen in the nursing home in the elderly population is the penicillin-resistant pneumococcus.
There has been a tremendous amount of press about these organisms, but in reality penicillin-resistant pneumococci can be very easily treated with higher doses of penicillins or cephalosporins.
And at the current time these organisms should not receive any particular type of attention more so than perhaps documenting them as being present, as we need to follow the evolution of this particular problem.
