For instance, infection in the elderly may not be accompanied by traditional fever of greater than 101 degrees and may even manifest itself as hypothermia instead of a fever. Even temperatures as low as 100 degrees may indicate infection in this population.

When hyperthermia occurs in this population, it is probably a combination of factors that involves both infection and severe underlying comorbidities.
