Quinolone antibiotics are not particularly effective and, even though one may see sensitivity on cultures, quinolones should not be used as first line therapy for MRSA infections.
Another important area that has emerged within the last five years with regard to multi-resistant bacteria in the elderly are infections due to vancomycin-resistant enterococci.
