Their recovery will progress for much longer but at a slower rate, so at this point they arrive at nursing homes reluctant, angry, frightened, depressed and uncooperative. A new resident of a nursing home has all of these feelings jumbled up inside of him.
Staff need to take the time to listen to their story. If the resident can't communicate very well, then it will take a longer time.
Staff need to be sympathetic and warm. Believe me, it is hard for the patient to be angry in the face of someone who is genuinely concerned.
