Rural White Elderly as Patients

Those persons who were considered part of the "wilds of the backwoods" or rather persons who abused tobacco and alcohol, and were sexually promiscuous, usually became a mortality statistic or migrated to the urban areas.

Therefore, today's rural elderly fit the description of "survival of the fittest" and are looked upon as hard working, self-sufficient, independent, hardy, and law-abiding persons.
