On a personal basis, marriage transplanted me from the city to the farm and after thirteen years of marriage, living in a very old farmhouse, my husband said to me, "I think that we can consider building a new house and I can build it." Then I asked him, "When did you build a house before" and he stated, "I never did." I thought to myself, "sure you can build a house - we'll see - and the bathroom will probably end up in the middle of the family room."
It never crossed his mind that he could not build a nice house for his family - and he did just that - from cutting the timber, to wiring, plumbing, framing, brick laying, and the finish. And the plumbing was appropriately placed in the bathrooms, believe it or not!
