UF COM Class of 2009 Code of Ethics

Code of Ethics

University of Florida

College of Medicine

Class of 2009

We, the Class of 2009, pledge to uphold this Code of Ethics while remembering the sacrifices, struggles, and successes of our predecessors. Recognizing the practice of medicine as both a noble calling and a humbling privilege, we vow to:

• Preserve the sanctity of the bond forged between patient and doctor through a professional approach to all interactions between ourselves and others.

• Conduct ourselves with the utmost diligence, honesty, and integrity.

• Strive to improve the quality of life by treating the person as well as the disease.

• Be confident enough to lead, but humble enough to acknowledge our shortcomings and limitations.

• Respect the diversity of people and ideas.

• Communicate with sincerity and empathy, thereby empowering our patients with the knowledge to make decisions.

• Contribute to our communities by fostering a collaborative environment and recognizing equality amongst all.

• Balance our lives physically, emotionally, and spiritually so that our loved ones make us better doctors and our patients make us better loved ones.

• Never let our passion for learning fade, and inflame the souls of others with such passion through an enthusiasm to share the gifts with which we have been entrusted.

“to cure sometimes, to relieve often, to comfort always.”
