Code of Ethics
We, the University of Florida College of Medicine Class of 2011, pledge to:
- Advocate for all individuals in need of our help, acting without bias on their behalf.
- Strive to achieve the best physical and emotional health of our patients while upholding their worth and dignity.
- Exemplify the standards of professionalism and integrity in all aspects of life.
- Maintain a humble and teachable spirit by acknowledging our limitations and looking to others when necessary.
- Sustain a proper balance of personal health and well-being, realizing that our physical and emotional stability is a prerequisite to providing effective, quality care.
- Acknowledge, respect, and learn from the diversity encountered among patients, colleagues, and members of the community.
- Commit to working as confident and dedicated members of the healthcare team such that we will make the greatest impact, understanding that the practice of medicine is far from a solitary profession.
- Practice honesty and truthfulness in all interactions and studies while respecting the values, privacy, and autonomy of others.
- Recognize the dynamic nature of medicine, committing ourselves to a lifetime of scholarship as both teachers and learners.
- Recall the passion that inspired us to pursue a life and career in medicine so that through our trials and successes we always remember to place those we serve above ourselves.
"Patient care will always be an art which rests on a scientific base."
- Dr. George Harrell, founding dean of the University of Florida College of Medicine
