Discussion Group
The narrative medicine and medical humanities elective grew from a discussion group for undergraduates, medical students, staff, and faculty. This group met and discussed material related to the creation of a more empathetic and compassionate medical practice and to explore the psycho-social aspects of medicine, health, and health care.
The group particularly explores the importance of story telling- of narrative- in understanding the experience of illness and the search for healing. Readings and movies change each semester, so please read about out some classic, must-reads in the study of illness narrative.
The group continues to draw in interested faculty and students from across the University of Florida campus.
First, second and fourth year medical students interested in taking the course for credit should visit the Narrative Medicine online course syllabus.
